“I believe that the best travel should give people a real experience of a destination and leave them changed. When I go places, I want to find out what the locals do, where they eat and how they live…step out of my comfort zone and let the adventure take me. The root of this philosophy began in 1994, when I went on my first township tour to Soweto. We ventured way beyond normal sightseeing: standing on the roadside at a taxi rank, trying out home-brewed beer, and entering a humble shack to share a traditional meal with the family who lived there. After experiencing a way of life completely different to what I’m used to, I found myself leaving the township with new friends and a newfound respect for different cultures. It sparked a desire to learn more about all people and their ways of life; something that still inspires me to this day.”
