An essential destination on any trip to Namibia, Etosha National Park is a rich, expansive wildlife sanctuary that covers an area of 22 000 square kilometres. Situated in the wide open spaces in the north of the country, Etosha is one of the largest game parks in Africa and as a result offers the visitor a spectacular African wildlife safari experience.
Home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish, Etosha National Park is perfectly situated to make game-viewing an absorbing and easy experience. With good roads, plenty of signposts and numerous lookouts, Etosha National Park is ideally suited to a self-drive safari, but also offers a variety of guided tours and trips.
Its eastern territory is dominated by a massive mineral pan that covers almost a quarter of the area of the entire park. Once a lake but nowadays holding water only temporarily, the pan attracts thousands of wading birds, including sizeable and spectacular flocks of pink flamingos. Its natural springs draw large concentrations of wildlife, resulting in a truly awe-inspiring experience where lucky visitors are able to view elephant, giraffe, rhino, lion and sometimes even leopard and cheetah among many others at a single viewing.
Mushara Outpost accommodates a small number of guests in custom-made luxury safari tents.
