Remarkably preserved in its natural state, Victoria Falls is as breathtaking to today’s visitors as it was to David Livingstone in the 1860’s. The falls themselves and the surrounding areas have been declared National Parks and a World Heritage Site, ensuring that the region remains free from excessive commercialisation and mistreatment. Victoria Falls town is in Zimbabwe and lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi River. The airport is just south of the town and has international services to Johannesburg and Namibia. On the Zambian side of the border is the town of Livingstone, a historic colonial city and tourism centre for Victoria Falls. This border town has road and rail connections to Zimbabwe as well as an airport with connections to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, and Johannesburg in South Africa.
