Widely regarded as one of the most significant international wine charity auctions, the Cape Wine Auction has raised R73 million for local education in its five years in existence. The idea for the auction was conceived by respected winemaker and industry personality, Mike Ratcliffe (MD of Warwick and Vilafonté Wine Estates), who was inspired by a trip to Auction Napa Valley in the US; a wine auction with the mandate of subsidising health costs. The auction has created a benchmark in philanthropy, with all proceeds going to 27 carefully selected beneficiaries, all of whom have had a profound impact on education and the lives of children in the Cape Winelands.
The 2019 event will take place on the 1st and 2nd of March at different wine estates in the Western Cape. Prominent wine
aficionados from around the globe, hosted by South Africa’s iconic winemakers, are invited to make a serious difference in aid of charity when the bidding opens on once-in-a-lifetime offerings including rare wine collections as well as exclusive hand-selected local and international wine, gourmet and travel experiences.
The Cape Wine Auction is a wonderful opportunity to make a contribution to the local community while enjoying the world-famous winelands and other popular destinations in South Africa. Timeless Africa Safaris can arrange accommodation at any of a number of beautiful hotels in idyllic vineyard settings so that you can make the most of your time in the wine country. Combine your visit to the Cape with a trip up the Whale Coast or a Big 5 safari at the Kruger National Park for the ultimate South African adventure.
