Overall, the trip was fantastic. It’s interesting, though, how expectations are totally different than the reality. Prior to the trip I hadn’t given much thought to Ellerman House, but as it turned out, I fell in love with the place. I could easily live the rest of my life there.
I cannot tell you how much Shelley enhanced our stay, both in Cape Town and in the wine country. Being with her very quickly became like being with a friend (we continue to keep in touch). Her walking foodie tour of old Cape Town was right up our alley and, even though it was the same day, her suggestion of “having a snack” at Willoughby’s at about 4 in the afternoon turned out to be my favorite meal of the entire trip. I day dream about that every day. Although, admittedly, the lunch at Delaire Graff was on another level entirely! For us, the wine country was a complete knock-out.
The Cheetah Outreach was another amazing highlight we loved and again, Shelley made the two days out touring in the Franschhoek area.
